Thanksgiving All Over Again

Every once in a while, dear hubby and I feel the need to escape the confines of the city and head out to our country place. Actually calling it a country place is dignifying it, since all we have is twenty-four acres of land and a garage. But what adventures we have!

This weekend , as we were driving down the gravelled country road towards our garage, I spotted a dark form at the fence-row edge. "Look, honey!" I said, "It's a pheasant!"

Well, if pheasants weighed fifteen pounds and gobbled, then I was right. It was actually a wild turkey and it was on our land! Hubby's mouth started to drool. "Do you think bagging a bird out-of-season on your own land is really wrong?!" The answer he expected to hear was, no, dear, it's perfectly okay to shoot a helpless critter.

But I am made of different stock than that; daring life and limb, and whipping out my camera which I had so conveniently brought along, I quietly stalked the wild turkey instead. Alas, who knew turkeys were so fast?!! All I caught on camera was a dark brown blur.

But I swear, it really did happen...

Who feels guilty about shooting a wild (ugly) turkey when they are more than willing to rid their yard of trespassers in their garden! *Ahem* And who offered to buy the hairspray to light the spiders on fire? :)
