Our relationships with our mothers are complicated. They are the ones who brought us into the world, kicking and screaming, nurtured us through countless bruises, breaks, and heartaches, and if we were lucky, were our confidantes.
Now that we are all women ourselves, with our own homes and families, the relationships have changed. No longer do we want to share every experience or hurt with them; we now have husbands, boyfriends, and female friends to do that with. We have our own children or grandchildren to nurture now.
The next step is the hardest…the change from child who is cared for to the adult who is caring for the parent. Again the experience changes, and it feels strange and lonely sometimes. But that is the circle of life….
